Born and raised in Belgium, Catherine Somzé (1977) studied Art History at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and completed her ‘licenciatura’ with an Erasmus grant at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. She then received a Master’s degree in Film and Television Studies from the International School for Humanities and Social Sciences and a second Master, in Media Studies, from the University of Amsterdam in 2006. She is still living in the Netherlands where she is now combining her work as a freelance art critic with teaching positions on modern and contemporary art, as well as the history and theory of cinema at the Willem de Kooning Academy and the Erasmus University College. She is also the thesis director of the Dirty Art Department at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam.
